Phone/Fax: (93) 369-575 Mayor: Mr. József Kassai Population: 2,104 Characteristics: The first written record mentioning the village as Keresztur dates from 1347. (The name Murakeresztúr has been in use since 1926.) Between 1566 and 1598, the Turks relentlessly attacked the village. Before World War I, Croatians accounted for 90% of the population, but the Paris peace treaties attached the nearby areas to the Serbo-Croatian-Slovenian kingdom. However, even today, many of the residents are Croatians. The population shows a declining trend. Murakeresztúr is a regional center and a border crossing station.
