Characteristics: The name of the settlement was first mentioned in a written document in 1347. At that time the village was owned by the Fábián family, and later by the Bishop of Veszprém. Although according to the 1493 census Sormás is still an insignificant settlement, by 1519 it is a populous village with three mills. In 1548 it was almost completely destroyed in a Turkish attack, however, it was soon rebuilt.

Economy: The village of Sormás has long been agricultural. The co-operative, established in 1960, still operates, at present with 45 employees. The importance of agricultural activity has been increasing recently. As a result of the 45 private enterprises, local business life seems to be on the rise. There are three shops, an ÁFÉSZ supermarket and two catering units with one pansion. Unemployment: 12%
Development plans to the year 2000: Construction of the cable television network and bicycle roads, the parcelling of land.
Institutions: Kindergarten, primary school, culture house, hotel, library, a sports field and a restaurant.
Sights: Late-Baroque Szent Rókus Church located in the cemetery.
